Summary: A carefree bachelor (Adam Sandler) finds his life changed after he meets and falls for a pretty girl (Drew Barrymore) with a rare brain disorder that causes her to have no short term memory. That means, every day he must get her to fall in love with him over and over, and the next day, she will have no recollection that they ever met.

Review:

Tim: This film succeeds because of the incredible chemistry between Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Some on screen couples have it, and some don't. Sandler and Barrymore definitely do. This is a fitting follow up to the excellent The Wedding Singer. This film was released on the same date that their former film was, and audiences ate it up.

50 First Dates is an incredibly funny film. It enjoys some terrific writing and Sandler uses his material to deliver some hilarious lines with impeccable comedic timing.

I really like the idea behind this movie- try to date someone who will have no memory of you the next day. The idea is so ripe and so interesting. Fortunately, Peter Segal takes this idea and doesn't sugarcoat it. The film could have ended in so many cheesy ways. Instead, Segal sticks to his guns and I applaud him for it (even though some may not like it). Segal treated the story with the utmost respect and creates a movie that is very enjoyable to watch.

I did not really like the setting of the movie in Hawaii. I understand the desire to film in an exotic location, but it made the film feel a little too surreal for me. Even worse than the setting is the opening sequence. It is supposed to allow the audience to see what a ladies' man Sandler is, but it doesn't fit in with the rest of the movie. The transition between this Sandler and the one we see in every other scene is sloppy and doesn't connect at all.

Other than a few small problems, 50 First Dates is an incredible romantic comedy. It is the perfect date movie- it has enough romance for all the ladies and enough comedy for all the guys. The film is easily watchable and quite enjoyable. I sincerely look forward to Sandler and Barrymore making many more films together.
