Summary: A 40 year old virgin (Steve Carrell) has pressure put on him by his buddies while at the same time, falling in love with a single mom (Catherine Keener).

Review:
Tim: This is not nearly as funny as it should have been. The concept is solid, but the movie just doesn't inspire enough laughs.

Steve Carrell is incredibly good in his star-making role. This is the film that will launch him high in Hollywood. He is so convincing and the character is such a gigantic nerd that it just plain works. Paul Rudd is decent, but is character is much weaker than the one in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. I love the casting of the always good Catherine Keener. She is so reliable and great to watch, always shining on the screen. The rest of the supporting cast is good and manage to get quite a few laughs.

There are several very funny moments. The bike chase at the end is great. The sex education class, the poker game, and a few other one-liners (how many pots have you smoken?" inspire the occasional laugh.

The main reason to see this movie is for the effort Carrell puts into his comedic role. Most good actors have that one role that really announces them to the world and people say "Dude, this guy can really act, and he's going to be around for a while." At least, that's what I say.

The 40 Year-Old Virgin might not be the best movie ever, but it was released theatrically at a time when people were starving for R-rated comedies, and this helped to bring those types of films back into the forefront of Hollywood's (and audience's) minds.
