Review:

Tim: I hate this movie. I've always hated this movie, ever since I was a little kid. It is not because I was scared, because I saw scarier movies as a kid (I saw Predator 2 in theatres and wasn't afraid). It isn't because I don't like benevolent alien movies, because I love Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I just think this movie sucks.

I have a lot of problems with the movie. These aliens have advanced enough technology to travel lightyears to Earth, but are scared by some guys in pickup trucks to the point where they leave one of their own behind? Come on.

So you have this alien from a far more intelligent civilization, and once stranded, what does this obviously smart alien do? Hide in a shred and is led like a dog, following a trail of candy to a kid's bedroom. Even if the alien is just a little kid himself, this is pretty stupid. He's obviously intelligent if he makes a long distance phone thingy out of a reading machine, an umbrella, fork, and sawblade. Plus, he has these wonderful powers- the ability to levitate objects, heal wounds, etc. Even more so, he is intricately "connected" to Elliot. Right. The worst part of all is the flying bike scene. Give me a freaking break.

I won't even go into the other plot holes or ridiculous situations in the film. I will concede that this is a very well loved fairy tale, and generally regarded as one of the best movies of all time. I just happen to strongly dislike it, and nothing will change that.
