Summary: Two lifelong friends experience difficulties when one (Jack Black) invents Vapoorize, a product that makes dog waste disappear. He becomes a millionaire, driving his best friend (Ben Stiller) insane with envy.
Review:
Tim: Absolutely nothing in this movie makes sense, and I'm not talking about that in the Being John Malkovich-Charlie Kauffman sense, either. I'm talking about it in the confusing, frustrating, sense.
As a comedy, Envy just does not work. You'd think that with Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and even Christopher Walken in a comedic role, that the film would funny. It isn't.
The movie is quite clunky and doesn't make for an enjoyable time. The film isn't particularly awful, but simply doesn't work. I like the idea behind the film, but the laughs don't come at all. The "funny" parts aren't funny and the "emotional" parts evoke nothing.
Rachel Weisz is a great actor, but she isn't very good in this comedic role. She gives a forced performance and isn't funny in the least. At times, it is painful watching her trying to be funny.
Envy fails on nearly all cylinders. Don't waste your time with this film. I wish I had some Vapoorize to make this dog turd disappear.
