Summary: An intellectual billionaire travels to Alaska with his beautiful wife (Elle MacPherson) and a fashion photographer (Alec Baldwin) who may be sleeping with her. During a trip into the wilderness, the plane carrying the two men crashes, leaving them stranded many, many miles from any civilization. The two men must rely on their intelligence to survive, but their feelings for each other may prove more deadly than the elements.
Review:
Tim: Adventure survival movies don't get any more intelligent (or intense) than The Edge. This film pits man against nature, and nature can be a relentless, cruel beast.
Even more deadly than the elements and wild animals is the animosity that exists between Hopkins and Baldwin. This is an underlying, silent, unseen and seething anger.
What could be more fascinating than watching two men stranded in the wilderness with only their intellect to survive? The Edge gives us that, but also throws in man's ulterior motives, a mankiller bear, and much more.
Anthony Hopkins is amazing. He displays intelligence and calm in incredible fashion. He is a thinking man's hero, and we can't help but love him in this role.
Alec Baldwin is perfectly cast in his role. He has the ideal balance between insane anger and reserved frustration. He makes a very good counter to Hopkins' character.
Hopkins and Baldwin make the perfect pair that we are fascinated with. This film gives us intense action and thrilling suspense. You'll love this movie.
