Review:

Tim: This was a great idea that was doomed to fail from the beginning. It would have be great if it could have worked, but how could it?

The casting couldn't have been better. Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott as the Duke brothers was perfect. Of course, this means that the film would be incredibly juvenile and geared more to the early teens than other demographics. Casting Jessica Simpson as Daisy Duke, I hate to admit, was inspired. This role was 99.5% someone to look at, and .5% of actual acting. Simpson struggles mightily to give that .5%, but the producers give her plenty of opportunities to frolic around in very, very little. Getting Burt Reynolds to play Boss Hogg was great for the film, terrible for his career. It's sad to see an iconic actor slumming it in terrible films like this. Getting Willie Nelson to play Uncle Jesse was a good move, but in the end, who really cares?

Besides using Simpson to try to lure people to the theatres, the film also tries to use fancy cars, primarily the General Lee, a '69 Charger. So far, we've seen girls and cars as the selling points of this film. Not exactly high-brow material here.

The Dukes of Hazzard is a silly, stupid movie that isn't funny unless you have the sense of humor of a twelve year old. The cast was well-picked, but this is a losing effort. This is a dumb film, full of juvenile humor, and not very well made. There might be a few entertaining moments, but in the end, this is a poor movie, and that is exactly what you expected.
