Summary: Four friends (including Thomas Jane, Jason Lee) who were blessed with the gift of telepathy go to spend their annual weekend in a cabin in the woods. However, something strange is occuring in the same woods. As strange occurences continue, the four friends realize they may be in the middle of an alien invasion, and one crazed military man (Morgan Freeman), trying to stop the invasion may destroy them, too. Based on the novel by Stephen King.

Review:

Tim: Any movie based on a novel by Stephen King automatically gets my attention. King is one of the greatest living writers, and has had many books successfully made into films. Perhaps my all time favorite (both book and movie) is The Stand. That being said, this King adaptation falls far short of any expectations you might have had.

The film does build suspense from the very first moments, and does not let up until the surprise ending. It is both horribly unbelievable, yet in some ways, is brilliant. Even in a somewhat unsuccessful film, Stephen King's genius can still be seen under the surface. King is the master of horror, and I do recommend all King fans see this film. It probably will disappoint you, but it still does have some redeeming qualities. For example, the film boasts great performances by Thomas Jane and Jason Lee. This is the first time I've seen Jane on screen and I was very impressed with his performance. You actually immediately like the four friends, which helps greatly with the movie. Morgan Freeman overplays his role slightly, and you feel sorry for him. He doesn't really fit into this film. It was a poor casting job in my opinion.

Ultimately, this film is decent enough to watch at least once. It is in many ways a typical King film. It keeps you guessing throughout. However, at last, it is more disappointing than anything else.
