Review:
Tim: It is very tough to make vampire movies. There have been so many, and with any single one, you have to try to do something the countless other ones haven't done. Dracula 2000 does just that, bringing new light into the tale of Dracula.
Besides the interesting twist to the tale, the film doesn't offer a whole lot else. Sean Patrick Thomas and Omar Epps play their parts well, but there really wasn't any reason for them to be in the film.
The two main characters, played by Miller and Waddell did not have enough time devoted to developing them, and as a result, the film lacks something. The whole film deals with too many characters, never devoting the needed time to a single one.
The special effects in the film are something to see, but not overly impressive. The film deals less with action scenes, and more with explaining the Dracula story, and setting up for the big conclusion. Saying that, the film does have a pretty incredible ending, which is one of the greatest endings of any vampire movie.
All in all, vampire film fans will not want to miss this one. If you are a fan of horror films, it is not certain you will enjoy this film. It is more action than horror, but it leaves you feeling cheated out of both.
If you are struggling for a film to rent, and have no better options, this film wouldn't be too awful to rent. The 99 minutes of the film aren't much time to do anything, and the film leaves you wondering where the rest of it is. If you are looking for pure entertainment, don't rent this film. However, if you are looking to find an interesting and new twist on the Dracula tale- then this is definitely the film for you. Unfortunately for this film, I am certain most people would rather choose an entertaining ride- and this film simply doesn't measure up to that.
