Review:

Tim: This is a very interesting look at one blazing hot day and how it changes the lives of everyone in one city block. Director Spike Lee gives us a huge cast of characters, all of them zany and memorable in their own way. This is where Lee sucks us in- somehow, he makes us feel right at home in the neighborhood of his film. The cast is extensive and most give great performances. Lee and Danny Aiello are particularly excellent. I was surprised that Martin Lawrence was as annoying as he turned out to be.

Lee pulls off a fantastic move by making his film a comedy that addresses a serious topic like racism. Watch how Lee interweaves comedy and terrible racism together. It is fascinating and boils up until the point when it absolutely explodes at the end. This is truly amazing to watch unfold.

While this is a very good film, Lee was still a very young director and at some moments throughout the film, this becomes apparent. Still, this movie is important and should be on your list of films to see. Its artistic, cultural, and entertainment significance cannot be denied. Lee is a talent director and he hit almost all the right notes with this one.
