Review:

Tim: Updating Alfred Hitchcock's excellent Rear Window was a good idea, and I like making it a teenage movie as well. This makes the film different enough so as not to have to compare it to that masterpiece too much. I also love the casting of Shia LaBeouf in the title role. I expect huge things out of this kid. This movie is thrilling, exciting, and generally very good. While this film isn't as good as Hitchcock's original, the difference is far less than you would expect.

Shia LaBeouf makes a very good leading man. He's likeable, funny, and just has that elusive quality that makes us enjoy him. He's quite good here. Sarah Roemer and Aaron Yoo both put in good performances, rounding out the trio quite well. I liked seeing Carrie-Ann Moss in a film again, even if she doesn't have much to do. David Morse is very creepy, and an excellent choice for the part.

The film does a surprisingly good job of making us care about the characters. They aren't just one-dimensional, and that makes the movie. I like the changes to the characters and the plot from the original. The concept of having the ankle bracelet because of house arrest made for some really intense scenes. I love the updates to the film.

Disturbia is a well made thriller. The last third ventures too much into the realm of being absurd, but it manages to stay just grounded enough. I liked watching LaBeouf as he continues refining his acting skills. This is a very entertaining film, and I wouldn't mind seeing this over and over again.
