Review:

Tim: This is a very good movie. It is a film about law, yet also of good and evil, of love, justice, and faith, about decisions- about doing the wrong thing, or the right one. Its tough to categorize this movie, because most of it is simply a lawyer movie. It does have small twists that show something evil is going on behind the scenes, but its not until the end that evil shows its ugly head.

The Devil's Advocate is a very smart law thriller, with just a touch of the supernatural. Keanu Reeves gives a good performance. He's not terrific, but plays the part very, very well. Charlize Theron is very good as his wife. The chemistry between them varies throughout the movie, but more often than not it is present and believable. Al Pacino is terrific as the devil. A number of actors have taken their hand at playing the Prince of Darkness, and Pacino adds his own very good performance to the mix. While I'm not sure if he's the best to play Lucifer, he definitely does an very good job.

The film has some pretty awesome plot twists. The major one does seem to be a bit cheesy, but its a whopper nonetheless. Its funny to think that someone could start watching this film, having no idea what it was about, and think they were watching a lawyer movie. However, as the film progresses, they'd realize there was something funny going on, until the climactic scene when all hell breaks loose. If you didn't know this movie was about a law firm run by Satan beforehand, I guarantee you were asking what in the hell was going on by the end scenes.

All in all, this is a pretty good movie. Its not great by any sense, and tends to drag on and on. If you want to watch a movie to see Satan, choose another one. In this movie, you aren't even told Pacino is Satan until the very end (although if you know anything about the movie you knew it all along). Satan as Satan makes a very small appearance. The rest of the movie is a very good courtroom drama.
