Summary: An art and literary professor (James Stewart) has a dream that his young son (Bill Mumy) will grow up following in his footsteps. It soon comes to light that his son is a math prodigy with an obsession with French Actress Brigitte Bardot. While the professor must contend with his dream ruined, he also must try to figure out how best to deal with his genius son.

Review:

Tim: This is a funny little family movie that actually seems much better than it probably really is. The movie is different because it sets up this interesting story of a young math prodigy and some of this struggles. The film then changes direction and involves real life actress Brigitte Bardot, playing herself. This should have ripped the movie apart, but for some crazy reason that is beyond me (the world of movies can be a crazy, unexplainable place), it works.

There is also a pretty interesting commentary on the whole science v. art battle. I am a fan of movies whose first priority is to entertain, but can't help including some social or other commentary. You can enjoy this movie as a cute story of a special little boy, but you can get an even greater appreciation for it by paying attention to his father's hatred of science. This science v. art makes the movie more rounded and interesting.

James Stewart is good in his often-played patriarch role. While he is a little tougher, and a little more closedminded, he is no less entertaining. I lvoe when he yells to the total stranger in the beginning of the film. The rest of the cast is decent. I never heard of Brigitte Bardot before this movie. While I was not enthralled with her, I was intrigured enough to want to know more about her.

The best scenes are when we see Stewart's son using his mental math genius. While some of the calculations are a bit ridiculous, they are still quite entertaining.

I like this movie, and despite itself, proves to be enjoyable.
