Review:

Tim: I am just not a very big fan of Wes Anderson. His movies are always somewhat enjoyable, but never great. They always slightly entertain me, but mostly disappoint. With this film, again he gives a decent movie, but not a great one.

Anderson usually does a good job with casting, and that is true again here. Anderson regular Owen Wilson makes another appearance, acting as the eldest, most experienced brother. He is quite humorous in the movie. Jason Schwartzman is fairly depressing, but he manages some of the film's funniest moments. I usually don't like Adrien Brody, but he makes a good addition to the cast. The best moments of the film involve these three actors interacting as brothers. They account for some hilarious moments- "I'm going to mace you in the face!" (my favorite). Their interactions fuel the movie and make it quite entertaining.

I also have to mention my favorite lines of the film "What did he say?" "He said the train is lost." "How can a train be lost? It's on rails." This excellent bit of dialogue is Wes Anderson at his best. It is unfortunate that there isn't more of these moments.

Bill Murray makes an incredibly short appearance, but it accounts for one of the most interesting and memorable moments of the whole film. I didn't much like Anjelica Huston, but I'm not a fan of her at all. I also need to mention Natalie Portman, although she's mostly present in the short film shown prior to the movie, Hotel Chevalier

Like most Wes Anderson movies, The Darjeeling Limited has some truly genius moments. However, when you add it all up, the sum is less than the parts. His movies work in individual scenes, but not as a whole. So, while there were certain parts I definitely enjoyed, the movie itself is yet another disappointment.
