Along with Mayor Rachel Wando (Linda Hamilton), Harry believes the volcano will erupt. However, his boss arrives and calms his beliefs and tells the town there is no need to go on alert. As the team of volcanologists monitor the volcano, Harry is the only one who believes it will erupt. When it finally does, all hell breaks loose as Harry and Rachel must struggle not only for their own lives, but the lives of Rachel's two children, who have traveled up the mountain to save their grandmother.

Review:

Tim: Dante's Peak has all the ingredients of nearly every disaster movie. One person believes the disaster will happen, while the majority don't believe them. Of course, he or she is correct, and all hell breaks loose. The film does have its predictable moments, but that seems not to matter in the grand scheme of things. Dante's Peak is filled with amazing special effects. The volcano eruption, helicopter crashes, rivers of molten lava, flooding, bridge breaking, town destroying spectacular is just fun to watch. Pierce Brosnan acts wonderfully in the film, and works very well with Linda Hamilton. The film is nonstop excitement, amazing special effects, and of course, disasters galore.

This film is truly excellent. It's difficult to say which volcano movie of 1997 is better, because both have excellent elements to them. Volcano was a very good movie, but everything it lacked, Dante's Peak had. The best thing to do is watch both and you decide. For me, however, Dante's Peak gets the edge by the slimmest of margins. This film is excellent, and I highly recommend watching it.
