Review:

Tim: This film went down in history as one of the biggest box-office flops of all time. I don't feel like looking up the exact numbers, but I believe the film cost something like $100 million, and grossed about $10 million at the box office. It continued the trend of pirate movies flopping horribly. However, despite its distaste with viewers, I really liked this movie. Now, perhaps it is my tendency to like films like this, because I'm a huge fan of pirate movies. Swashbuckling, monkeys-on-captain's-shoulders, buried treasure, ship fights, the imperial guard...Come on! They are great!

I'm actually surprised this film was as good as I thought it was. I don't know how Geena Davis and Matthew Modine could have made such a good film. It is probably in large part due to director Renny Harlin, who I believe did a great job. Cutthroat Island is pure entertainment. It is exciting, thrilling, and keeps the film movie.

While most of America would probably disagree with me, I'd advise you to take a chance with this film. If you're looking for pure action and thrills, this film should satisfy you. Take a chance, and while you're watching it, ask yourself this- "What is this film rated? "Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr?" Bad pirate joke, sorry. And, I know its rated PG-13... but that just isn't as funny.
