Review:

Tim: I really like and don't like this movie. I like this movie because it is a powerful, beautiful story about friendship, growing up, and ultimately, about life and death. I like this movie because of Joseph Mazzello. I don't like this movie because for some reason, I just cannot hold it together at the end. I can't do it. And I don't like getting emotional about movies.

Joseph Mazzello was one of the great actors in the 1990s. Between this film, Radio Flyer, and Jurassic Park, he absolutely owned the childhood role of the 1990s. He gives another amazing, powerful, heartbreaking performance here. He is superb. Brad Renfro is also quite good, but for very different reasons. These two work surprisingly well together.

There are some very, very emotional scenes. Perhaps my all time favorite (and heart-breaking) scene involves Mazzello and Renfro in the tent, Mazzello's story, and the shoe. This scene gets me every time. The ending is also quite beautiful and unforgettable as well.

The Cure is a beautiful, occasionally frustrating (for good reasons though), and very emotional film. When I watch this, I can't help but think of Mazzello's performance in Radio Flyer, and putting these two together, I just can't take it. I'm emotionally drained by the end of the movie. This film will make you think, make you laugh, and make you cry.
