Review:

Tim: You can't talk about this movie without at least mentioning the world-shaking twist that comes halfway through the film. This is such an unexpected, shocking turn of events that the movie is defined by this. However, there is much more to the movie than this.

Stephen Rea gives an absolutely amazing performance. He gives such a complicated, layered performance. It is unforgettable. However, the real star of the film is Jaye Davidson. This performance is absolutely astonishing, and you'll see why it is Academy Award winning. Forest Whittaker does a good job in a small role.

The film starts to get a bit top heavy, as you have ambiguous relationships, IRA kidnappings, terrorist activities, and much more. The film starts to lose itself a bit. It is impossible to accurately classify this movie because it simply defies typical thought about movies. It is for this reason that this movie is a must-see.

Neil Jordan does an absolutely terrific job directing the film. The movie protects the film's big twist (although I guessed it ahead of time), and this is an impressive achievement. The Crying Game is an unforgettable movie for so many reasons. It deserves a viewing, simply because you'll never see anything quite like this again.
