Review:

Tim: This is one intense and damn exciting movie. Despite any preconceived ideas you may have regarding the validity of the science or the strength of plot, it should be mentioned that this movie is pure entertainment. The fact of the matter is, most of what you see is scientifically impossible and absurd, but who cares? It is an amazing story and really makes you think scientifically, even if the facts are oftentimes more fiction than truth.

This is a disaster movie in the same vein as Independence Day, Armageddon, and Deep Impact. For example, in this latest venture to the disaster films, Rome is fried by lightning and the Golden Gate bridge collapses. I am a firm believer that seeing cities and national monuments destroyed is one of the quickest ways to find an enjoyable film. In that aspect, The Core has enough brilliant disaster special effects to make it worth viewing.

The actors involved all give very good performances as well. Aaron Eckhart is a remarkable actor and the more I see him in, the more I enjoy his work. He is tremendous in this performance and his chemistry with Hilary Swank is good enough to make the film enjoyable. The supporting cast is excellent as well, with a good performance by Delroy Lindo and a surprisingly good performance by young D.J. Qualls.

I advise you as viewers to look past the scientific impossibilities in this movie. Sure, it is unrealistic, but it is exciting and fun to watch. That is what movies are all about in the end and The Core satisfies those requirements. Take a chance on this movie- you may discover it has more to offer than you might expect.
