Review:
Tim: Luke has to be one of the coolest, most mysterious characters to ever grace the screen. Despite my attempts, I just can't figure him out, or understand why he does the things he does. But, I do know that I genuinely like him. This movie is completely about this enigmatic, unconventional man. The performance is nailed by Paul Newman. This is way beyond textbook. It is the performance that all other performances strive to be. It is such a cliche to say that an actor was "born" to play a role, but can you honestly imagine any other man in this role> It is impossible.
This movie boasts some incredibly memorable scenes. The egg eating contest has to be one of the best scenes of all time. I absolutely love it. Luke's attempts at escape, and the punishment he faces are all etched in our minds. His stubborn disobedience is so confusing, but inspiring as well. The movie also has one of the great movie lines- "What he have here is failure to communicate."
Luke Jackson is a fascinating character, one of the most complex, intriguing characters you will ever see. He is determined- hell bent- on living his life his own way, bucking the rules and going against the establishment as often as possible. His motivations are never fully understood, and that adds to the interesting quality of his.
Cool Hand Luke is a classic movie, one of those that stands the test of time, and continues to entertain audiences. Newman is beyond excellent, the epitome of an antihero. He gives one of the all time greatest performances. This movie is very good, and stands up as one of the best prison movies ever made. If you haven't seen this, I recommend doing so very soon. You can find better movies, but it won't be easy.
