Review:
Tim: I was really excited about this movie because I like Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz, and after watching it, I like both of them even more. This is one of those important dramas that actors love, because they can just explode in their perfromances.
The film itself is a fascinating look at a politically charged situation involving big business, developing countries, and in the middle, Fiennes and Weisz, whom are part of a well told love story that works surprisingly well.
This movie has a wide appeal. To those that want some meaning to their movies, you'll see a story involving a big pharmaceutical company going to unbelievable lengths to protect and increase its profits. For those that like character development, you'll see a very well told story of how Fiennes and Weisz get caught up in this huge scandal, and how it impacts both of their lives. This is the real meat of the film. Weisz is absolutely stunning, and is surprisingly powerful considering she only appears in flashbacks. Somehow, this adds to her appeal. Fiennes is fantastic, and is perfect in the role. I have become an increasingly bigger fan of his in recent years, and this film increased that feeling exponentially. A great deal of credit should go to director Fernando Meirelles- The Constant Gardener is an extremely well made film, and that is apparent in every single frame. This is one of 2005's best, and that means you are required to see it.
