Summary: Late one night, a repairman (Richard Dreyfuss) has a close encounter with a UFO. He becomes obsessed with discovering the truth behind what he saw, which alienates his family and leads him on a quest to Wyoming, where he believes he will have another encounter with aliens.

Review:

Tim: Steven Spielberg's classic UFO masterpiece made believers out of millions of people and stands up as one of the best friendly-alien movies of all time.

The movie is so great because Richard Dreyfuss is at the heart of a mystery that takes us out of this world. He spends the movie trying to grasp elusive clues that mean...something.

The melody that is played throughout the movie (and chanted by thousands during one scene) is haunting and unforgettable. It adds a beautiful sense of awe that is found in all of Spielberg's films.

Richard Dreyfuss is outstanding as usual. He has plenty of room to acct and performs in excellent fashion. He also gets a few chances to yell, which is always enjoyable to see.

Sadly, the rest of the supporting cast is weak and forgettable (besides perhaps the French scientist). They don't offer Dreyfuss the support needed. The weakest part of the movie is that it is often quite slow and a bit too long.

However, that doesn't stop Close Encounters of the Third Kind from staying a classic for decades and remaining well worth our time watching.
