Review:

Tim: Kevin Smith does the same amazing things as a director as he did with Clerks and Mallrats. His films have this quality about them- you may not always like his characters or his themes, but you have to respect him for the type of him he makes. Smith creates his best film here, taking the strongest aspects of Clerks and correcting the weaker parts of Mallrats.

Ben Affleck is actually very good here. I am surprised to say this, but he pulls off some speeches and tough emotional scenes with relative ease. Jason Lee gives perhaps his best performance to date. He seriously, seriously cracks me up.

Smith nails relationships perfectly- these are not the romantic love affairs that are so picture perfect and out of our ordinary reach. His relationships are sloppy, difficult, and very real. His "Chasing Amy" definition/explanation is something most younger people can identify with.

Smith also does a good job in the latter role of the Jay and Silent Bob duo. His big speech near the end is a movie highlight.

Chasing Amy gives a very real and complex look at relationships and the weaknesses that can tear them apart. This is director Kevin Smith's best film.
