Review:
Tim: I've always really liked this movie. It has the perfect blend of action, comedy, and amazing car chases. Charlie Sheen is at his gentle yet action hero best. Kristy Swanson, though at times a bit annoying, actually gives a very good performance as well. As if all the other elements of the movie weren't enough, it finds time to comment on the role news media plays in the most dangerous situations everyday.
One of the reasons I really like this movie is how it is set up. You have Sheen and Swanson alone in a car hurling down the highway. On the outside, the world is hectic, chaotic, and dangerous. Inside the car, there is nothing but the two main characters. It is more relaxed, peaceful, and tangible. This duality of the movie really makes for interesting viewing.
Sheen and Swanson are actually excellent together on screen. Sheen is charming and witty, and is very, very likeable. Swanson is a little less so, but you find yourself caught up in their growing closeness.
Now, I definitely understand the flaws of this movie, the plot holes, the unbelievable factor of much of what you see. But, none of that really matters to me. This is an interesting film, it has some crazy car chase scenes, romance, action, and it throws in the occasional destruction on the highway, like an explosion or a car flipping over. It takes many fun elements and weaves them all into a single film. You might not thing this is a great movie, and it probably isn't. However, it is fun and enjoyable, and I've always really liked it.
