Review:

Tim: This stands out as one of the greatest horror movies of all time. It was beautifully adapted from Stephen King's novel, and Brian De Palma brings it to vivid, frightening life on screen. This film works so well because it focuses on the characters. This helps us to develop at least some type of emotional bond with them, allowing us to involve ourselves in what they are going through. It also doesn't hurt that the subject matter- a girl getting picked on by others- is something everyone can relate to (except me, of course).

The film is really made by two performances- Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. These two actresses perfectly hit the balance between drama and melodrama. Their performances are outstanding. Spacek was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress, the first woman to be nominated for the award in a horror film performance.

What really makes the movie outstanding is its climax. The film's Prom finale is chilling and once you've seen it, will never leave you. It gets in under your skin, and refuses to leave. The film ends in dramatic, memorable fashion, rightfully setting its place as one of the all-time horror classics.
