Review:
Tim: This is a very interesting look at the life of writer Truman Capote, specifically druing the time he wrote "In Cold Blood." This is a brilliant period in which to examine Capote's life, because it is the most dramatic, memorable, and a microcosm of his entire life.
The film is interesting and takes a close look at Capote, and what he went through to write his masterpiece. It is always fascinating to watch a writer doing research and moving throughout the creative process. Capote specifically is fascinating to watch as he positions himself in the middle of a controversy and manipulates the scene to get to the truth.
Philip Seymour Hoffman is very good in the role, channeling Capote from beyond the grave. I am not sure if I would have given him the Academy Award for Best Actor, but I admit he does give a good performance. Catherine Keener gives an outstanding supporting performance as Harper Lee. I love her in the role, and maintain that she's incredibly underrated, even though she did receive an Academy Award nominee for the role.
Capote is an interesting tale of a writer who knows he has a masterpiece on his hands, and the lengths he goes to get the story. Capote bonded with killers, and his level of dedication is amazing. Hoffman brings this story to life with his impressive performance. Turn off those TV shows and those mindless blockbusters for a few hours, and watch an important film.
