Review:

Tim: This film, which was John Candy's last, is fairly shockingly bad. It just is not funny in the least. I believed I laughed one time, when someone said about the Canadians, "They're even whiter than we are!" That was my only laugh. Part of this comes from the direction and writing of Michael Moore, who is less-than-stellar in my eyes. This is supposed to be a scathing commentary on U.S. politics and foreign policy, but this is almost lost amid a sea of terrible jokes and unfunny situations.

Candy is not funny at all. He plays big, fat, and stupid extremely well, but the material is juvenile and comes across as poor and silly. His talent was wasted. Kevin Pollak is usually enjoyable, but he's just absurd here. Rhea Perlman is ridiculous, and Alan Alda makes a terrible excuse for a President, even if that was the intent. Steven Wright is actually enjoyable in his cameo. However, the entire cast is weak, offering up virtually nothing.

There are some terrible scenes, meant to inspire laughs, but they mostly just inspire groans and eye-rolling. The essence with the Russian President is the low point in the film. Pollak's dive made me want to turn the film off right then. I could go on to describe other awful scenes, but you get the point. This movie is stupid, a complete mess, and an almost total waste. I blame Moore first and foremost, because he wrote and directed it. However, everyone involved shoulders some blame, because they should have known better. The film is a pretty remarkable piece of trash, and I recommend you run away from it.
