Summary: Bridget Jones (Renee Zellweger) is still happily dating Mark Darcy (Colin Firth), but she begins to suspect he is interested in a coworker, who would fit in with his life better than Bridget would. This strain, along with Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant) trying to get back together with her, complicated Bridget's life greatly.
Review:
Tim: This is an excellent sequel. While it is not quite as good as the original, the margin of difference is too small to make much of a difference.
Renee Zellweger packed on even more pounds for the role, which is amazing, and she looks stunning in a very non-Hollywood definition of stunning. She is incredibly good as Bridget Jones.
Colin Firth does his quiet charm routine perfectly, being incredibly likeable once again. Hugh Grant is devilish and sly. Like I thought after the first film, I really like him in this type of role. It is a great deal more fun than his normal good guy role.
I didn't think there would be enough material to fill a whole second film, but there is plenty of drama and romance for the film to be enjoyable. The film does tend to be a little bit ridiculous. The entire situation involving the Asian jail is absurd. I've never been in an all-women's prison in a poor Asian country, but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be like it is portrayed here. This is by far the weakest aspect of the film.
Bridget Jones is an incredible character and Zellweger plays her perfectly. She is very fun to watch. Surprisingly, I wouldn't mind a third installment in this franchise (obviously only if it is done well). I doubt Zellweger would want to go through the whole weight gain again, but she's fabulous in the role.
