Review:
Tim: This uncoventional romantic comedy acts as as breaht of fresh air in a genre that has become all too stale in recent years. This is a smart movie that balances comedy, romance, and realistic relationships to come up with a very original and fun movie.
Much of the credit goes to the cast. Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston show obvious chemistry together. They fought on screen, like a real couple, which increased the believability of the film. Both were quite funny. I love Vaughn's "You could build a godd&mn gingerbread house, I don't give a $%@*!" line. The supporting cast is good especially Jon Favreau in his humorous role. Even Justin Long throws in a good supporting performance, with Vincent D'Onofrio adding in a surprisingly emotional performance.
This is a film that has something for everyone. It is very, very funny, but best of all, it takes a realistic look at relationships. It portrays two good people whose relationship has just deteriorated to the point of crisis. Both Vaughn and Aniston are portraying characters who are nice people, but flawed as well. This often comes across as touching and endearing, and we're with both as they struggle in their relationship. The movie is more powerful than you would expect, and touches on what it means to grow as a person.
The Break-Up will thoroughly entertain, and should also make you think, because we've all been where Vaughn and Aniston find themselves here. This is a good movie.
