Summary:Eliot (Brendan Fraser), is an office worker with no social skills whatsoever, and no friends, either. He's head-over-heels in love with Alison (Frances O'Connor), a very pretty woman, who has no interest whatsoever in him. When he mutters that he'd give anything for Alison, he's soon met by The Devil (Elizabeth Hurley)himself..um..herself. She offers to give him 7 wishes in exchange for his soul. At first Eliot is skeptical, but in the end, signs his enternity away. Then begin his wishes, and the humor, as the Devil seems to screw up every wish he makes.
Review:
Tim: Okay, I will be the first to admit this movie has flaws, and many of them. However, I am not going to mention any of them in this review, because every critic in America has mentioned them a number of times, and I'm sick of it. This is a fun movie. It is one to be watched for enjoyment, not to pick apart every little detail. If you want to look for the flaws in this film, be my guest, but it won't be an enjoyable ride. However, if you sit back, relax, and prepare to laugh, this movie will be incredibly funny and entertaining.
My personal favorite aspect of this film is Elizabeth Hurley. Besides behind hot as all hell (pun intended), she appears in every scene in a different outfit, (all of them quite revealing), and you find yourself just waiting for her to get back onscreen so you can see what she's wearing. Other than that, she plays the Devil! How great is that? If you know me, you know I have a soft spot for films that feature the devil (because it's an incredibly interesting character, and easily fouled up). Hurley makes the perfect devil, dealing out sexuality that only the Prince... um.. Princess of Darkness could dish out. She makes this film the enjoyable film it is.
Besides Hurley and her hotness, Fraser also does a hell (get it?) of a job. I'm a big fan of Fraser, who's had many ups and downs in his career. He's made some great movies, and some downright awful ones. In my books, this is a success for him, as he shows his truly comedic side. Fraser was called upon to act in many different roles besides the dweeby Eliot- a Colombian drug lord, the most sensitive man in the world, a dumb basketball player, and many more. He is simply hilarious throughout the film. I especially loved the part where he realizes he can speak Spanish- I'm laughing just thinking about it.
Bedazzled is by no means the flawless picture, but who cares? For once in your life, don't listen to the critics (except me) and just watch this movie for pure enjoyment- you'll laugh, and feel much better about life afterwards. Don't pay attention to the plot holes, the silliness, or the unbelievability- it's not important. What is important is Fraser is funny, Hurley is hot, and this is a good movie.
