Review:
Tim: Cops in a precinct are forced to team up with criminals to make a stand against corrupt cops who want them all dead. Brilliant, sign me up, I love the premise. This is amazing to watch unfold on screen. The temporary alliance is fragile at best and threatens to shatter at any moment. This makes the movie intense and holds our attention.
Ethan Hawke is very good in the lead role. He was far better in Training Day, but he makes a good cop anywhere. Laurence Fishburne is a terrific gangster and he has the best scenes in the film when he interacts with Hawke. They make a good team on screen. The supporting cast is excellent- Gabriel Byrne and Brian Dennehy gives especially good performances. Maria Bello is surprisingly likeable and excellent in her role.
This is a gritty, violent film. A lot of people die and none in pleasant ways. It is full of action, a touch of drama, and a few comedic moments.
This film is proof that not all remakes are horrible ideas. This movie might not be great, but it is actually pretty good.
