Review:

Tim: This movie is hilarious. I usually am not a fan of stupid comedies and I'm one of the few people in America who doesn't think Will Ferrell is very funny. However, this movie is great, and Ferrell is outstanding here.

This movie takes an absurd topic- local TV anchormen (especially during the 70s) and their inflated egos, and creates a very funny film around it. It is brilliant.

The best part of the movie are all the cameos and small parts by Ferrell's friends- watch for Luke Wilson, Tim Robbins, Jack Black, Ben Stiller, and Vince Vaughn. The best scene in the movie is the newsmen street brawl. This has to be one of the funniest scenes of the last few years. I laugh hard every time- far harder than I ever do. Pay attention for Black's small cameo, too- it is very funny.

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy succeeds because of some inspired and creative writing. Ferrell has some truly insane lines, and delivers them in extremely funny fashion. The film works because the writing is perfect fodder for Ferrell, who just goes all out in his role. There are so many highlights in the film- prank-calling Applegate's character, Ferrell explaining the meaning of "San Diego," the "glass case of emotion" scene, "milk was a bad idea" scene, the memorable "Afternoon Delight" song, and many, many more. There are so many lines that people will be quoting for a very, very long time.

After a certain point, the movie just descends into absurdity (slightly similar to the end of Blazing Saddles). The bear scene at the end is ridiculous. However, it all manages to work for this movie. Make no mistake, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy is an incredibly stupid movie. However, it took a lot of intelligence to be that dumb, and it works. Coincidentally, it is even funnier than it is stupid. I really enjoyed this movie.
