Review:

Tim: A classic horror film is remade into a predictable but otherwise decent horror flick. I'm sure you heard the story before, about an evil in a house that causes its residents to kill. The story is frightening enough, yet not completely ridiculous to the point of not being enjoyable.

Ryan Reynolds is great in the role. I've been a fan of him for a long time, even if he has been in some terrible films. Here, I was amazed at how much muscle he has- the dude is absolutely jacked. He has such a charismatic way about him, that he's enjoyable to watch as a loving family man as well as a man slowly succumbing to the insanity brought on by an evil force. The rest of the cast is substandard.

The film really isn't too scary. There are a few creepy moments, but they are surprisingly void of frights. The movie also takes the easy way out, going for cheap scares, rather than more legitimate ones. Strangely enough, the most enjoyable aspect of the movie is Reynolds' rude and mean remarks to his family as the house takes him over more and more.

Part of the problem I have with all these horror films is that they are all structured the same way, feature the same thrills and scares, and do not differentiate themselves enough from each other. I've never seen this movie before, but the first time I watched it, I knew the entire formula, what to expect, and how the movie would end.

The Amityville Horror is your typical, run-of-the-mill horror film. It is entertaining, but offers up nothing new and you can watch this film on autopilot, not really paying attention or getting too involved. That is very good to say about a movie.
