Review:
Tim: I really enjoyed this movie. The cast is simply tremendous. Julia Roberts is, as always, magnificent, and Catherine Zeta-Jones sparkles as the not-so-good sister. Billy Crystal has the most important role in the film, acting like a glue, holding together John Cusack, Jones, and Roberts. Without Crystal and his great performance, the film would not succeed nearly as much as it does. While Crystal’s role in the film is the best, Roberts also gives an amazing performance. I was surprised at how good it was, even for Julia Roberts. Zeta-Jones acts wonderfully, making you despise her, but also feel sorry for her. Cusack does a remarkable job as well, although I thought his performance was not up to what he is capable of. I don’t want to take anything away from him, because he helps make the movie the success it is, but he could have brough more to the film than he was allowed to, giving a somewhat restrained performance.
All in all, America’s Sweethearts is an excellent film. It is truly the perfect date movie- enough romance to satisfy any lady, and enough humor and excitement to make certain the guys will not be bored throughout it. This movie truly is very funny, containing several scenes in which I just could not stop laughing. Watch for Hank Azaria and his lisp in a very funny and underappreciated performance.
This is an excellent movie all around, and one that you just can’t go wrong with. Not only do I recommend seeing this film, but I really recommend buying it. It is incredibly easy to watch, and you'll have fun every time you see it.
