Review:

Tim: The great films don't try to do everything, but concentrate on one idea, and explore it throughly. I'm not sure if that was the plan with American Pie, but this movie is about one thing and one thing only: sex. Now, at first glance, it would appear as if this movie treats sex like a joke or some small act (baked goods anyone?). But, there's also a good message buried somewhere in this collection of sex jokes. If you can find it, congratulations.American Pie is rude, disgusting, obscene... and damn, is it funny.

This movie is honestly one of the funniest comedies I've seen in a long time. From Biggs' relationship with a hot apple pie to "Shitbreak", this movie will make you howl. I want to mention how much I loved Seann William Scott in this movie. He didn't have a huge role, but Stifler is absolutley hilarious. He is such an asshole, but in a rude, crude way, you can't help but liking the guy. Prepare yourself, because this movie will make you laugh until your stomach hurts.

American Pie boasts an incredible cast of young actors, and some incredibly memorable characters. Already mentioned was Scott as Stifler, but there are many others. Mena Suvari is very sexy as the goodie choir girl, and there is definitely chemistry between her and Chris Klein. Alyson Hannigan as the band geek will have you rolling with laughter, as she repeats the now near-immortal line, "One time, at band camp..." Tara Reid is decent in this film, but wasn't particularly excellent. Thomas Ian Nicholas did an excellent job, and I really liked his character. Jason Biggs is absolutely hilarious, especially in the scenes where he and his father talk (watch for the one where his dad brings him porn)- Eugene Levy should also be noted for being hysterical as Biggs' father. Shannon Elizabeth is nice to look at, and strips down for the film's one scene of nudity. Eddie Kaye Thomas does an excellent job as Shitbreak.

This is perhaps the best comedy of 1999, and is definitely worth a view unless a movie about young people obsessed with sex, sex, and sex doesn't interest you. If that sounds like a film right up your ally, sit back and definitely have a slice of American Pie- you won't regret it.
