Review:

Tim: I should preface this review by mentioning that I watched the Special Edition 2 hour and 36 minute DVD version of the film. This is a bit longer and more engrossing than the theatrical version. That being said, Aliens is every bit as good as the original (a rarity in Hollywood). This film picks up right where the original left off (well, from Ripley's point of view, anyway). If feels like as soon as we finally could sigh with relief after the first film, here we are gasping in shock once more.

This movie is just as suspenseful and frightening as the original and in some ways, more. James Cameron directs an intense film that is relentless in its pursuit of fear and will keep you shuttering on the edge of your seat.

Sigourney Weaver does a tremendous job as Ripley once again. This film really focused on her as the hero from the beginning. Weaver portrays this incredible, strong-willed character that survives against all odds perfectly. She was awarded with an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress.

The rest of the cast is decent. Bill Paxton is pretty humorous in his role. When the body coutn starts rising, he gets more and more afraid and it is actually funny to watch. Lance Henriksen does a decent job in a smaller role, as does Paul Reiser.

Aliens is that rare Hollywood sequel that can stand up to the original film without blinking. Many times, sequels aren't even worth watching. In this instance, you not only need to see Alien, but you have to see this amazing film as well.
