Review:
Tim: While I was typing this review, my computer shut down and I lost most of my work. Anyone who has seen this movie might find that somewhat ironic or appropriate. Anyway, here goes again to the best of my memory-
I wasn't too excited about this movie initially. I had heard a number of critics just rip it apart. I really need to learn not to listen to them, because they are wrong just as often as they are right. I actually really enjoyed this movie, and I think you will, too.
Luke Wilson and Kute Hudson are both very talented young stars. Putting them together in a romantic comedy was a brilliant idea. They have wonderful chemistry, are excellent on screen together, and can be quite funny, too. This pairing was crucial for the film, and luckily, they picked the right people for the job.
I found it fascinating to actually watch the writing process unfold on screen. While Wilson writes, its interesting to see how Hudson affects his story and the ultimate outcome of the book. It was also interesting to see how Alex weaves reality and fantasy together for his novel.
This is quite an enjoyable romantic comedy. It has all the familiar elements of a romantic comedy, yet tells its story in a different light. It properly uses humor to move the romance storyline along. Despite what critics have said, Alex & Emma is an excellent and enjoyable romantic comedy and I do recommend seeing it.
