Review:

Tim: The Alamo bombed at the box office, but it isn't as bad as you think it would be. In many ways it is a very good and historically accurate film about the Alamo and its significance to Texas and the United States. The movie succeeds because it shows the human side of the heroes of the Alamo.

Dennis Quaid is good as Sam Houston, but has too little screen time to make much of an impact. His big scene near the end is pretty enjoyable, however. Billy Bob Thornton is surprisingly excellent as David Crockett. I anticipated him to be the weakest character, but he was the most enjoyable to watch. Jason Patric is pretty good as Jim Bowie, and Patrick Wilson is absolutely incredible as William Travis.

The battle sequences were all decent, but I wish for slightly more epic scenes. The film did a good job showing the days leading up to the battle, even moreso than has ever been done before. These provide a much needed human side to this important historical event.

Overall, The Alamo is an enjoyable and interesting film. It could have been better, but it is still pretty good.
