Review:

Tim: This film isn't necessarily different or unique from the plethora of other similar films coming out during the early 1940s. The difference is that this is a very good movie. Humphrey Bogart has quite a bit of experience in war movies, and he brings all that experience to this film.

The movie is quite exciting, as our heroes find themselves in perilous situation after perilous situation. The action is top notch, and the film manages to be fairly dramatic. The characters are decent, but I would certainly have liked to see more character development. The film tries to do this early on, but it needed to be more apparent. Even Bogart's character is not nearly as developed as he needs to be. Bogart gives his usual strong performance, but this won't rank among his best characters.

While Action in the North Atlantic has some great strengths, there are also enough flaws to bring it down some. Luckily, there is enough action and drama to offset any problems, and we're left with a very strong "propoganda" war film. You can find better movies, but this one certainly deserves to be seen.
